IVF Treatment in Goa

Eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory and a resulting embryo is placed in the uterus. Available at Sunshine IVF Centre, Mapusa, North Goa.

What is IVF?

IVF (in vitro fertilisation) is a fertility treatment in which a woman’s eggs are collected and fertilised with sperm in the embryology laboratory. One embryo (occasionally two) is then transferred into the uterus. Any additional good-quality embryos can be frozen for later use.

At Sunshine IVF Centre in Mapusa, IVF is planned by our fertility specialists after a full evaluation of both partners, so that the treatment protocol suits your medical history.

Who may need it?

How it works — step by step

1

Ovarian stimulation

Hormone injections and tablets help the ovaries develop several mature follicles. Progress is tracked with ultrasound scans and blood tests.

2

Egg retrieval

When the follicles are mature, eggs are collected through the vagina with a fine needle under ultrasound guidance. It is a day-care procedure done under short anaesthesia and usually takes 10–30 minutes.

3

Fertilisation & embryo culture

The eggs are mixed with sperm (IVF) or each egg is injected with a single sperm (ICSI). Embryos are cultured in an incubator for 3 to 5 days.

4

Embryo transfer

An embryo is gently placed in the uterus using a fine, soft catheter. It feels similar to a routine internal examination.

5

Pregnancy test

A blood test (beta-hCG) is done about 11–14 days after embryo transfer.

The woman’s age is the most important factor, along with egg and sperm quality, the health of the uterine lining and conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis or tubal fluid. Your doctor can discuss what applies to you after your tests. No clinic can guarantee a pregnancy.
No. Egg retrieval and embryo transfer are day-care procedures. Most patients go home the same day after a few hours of observation.
Yes. Good-quality embryos not transferred in a fresh cycle can be frozen (vitrified) and used in a later frozen embryo transfer, if you consent to it.
