Fertility Tests and Diagnostics

Follicular monitoring, HSG, hysteroscopy, semen analysis and hormone tests to find the cause. Available at Sunshine IVF Centre, Mapusa, North Goa.

Overview

Finding the cause of infertility is the first step. We evaluate both partners, because male factors contribute to infertility in a large share of couples. Tests available at Sunshine IVF Centre include:

Follicular monitoring

A series of transvaginal ultrasound scans that follow the growth of ovarian follicles and confirm ovulation, to time intercourse, IUI or medication.

Hysterosalpingography (HSG)

An X-ray test using contrast dye to check the shape of the uterine cavity and whether the fallopian tubes are open.

Hysteroscopy

A thin telescope with a camera is passed through the cervix to look inside the uterus and treat problems such as polyps, septum or adhesions.

Semen analysis

Measures sperm count, motility (movement) and morphology (shape) — the basic test of male fertility.

Semen processing

Washing and concentrating a semen sample to select motile sperm for IUI or IVF.

Hormone & ovarian reserve tests

Blood tests such as AMH, FSH, LH, thyroid and prolactin, along with an antral follicle count scan.

Frequently asked questions

Typically a detailed history for both partners, a pelvic ultrasound for the woman, hormone blood tests and a semen analysis for the man. Further tests such as HSG or hysteroscopy are advised only if needed.
Usually 2 to 5 days of abstinence from ejaculation is advised before giving the sample. The sample is collected in a sterile container at the clinic. Our staff will give you exact instructions.
HSG can cause cramping similar to period pain for a few minutes. A mild painkiller taken beforehand often helps.
