ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

A single sperm is injected directly into each mature egg — commonly used for male-factor infertility. Available at Sunshine IVF Centre, Mapusa, North Goa.

What is ICSI?

ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is an advanced IVF laboratory technique in which an embryologist injects a single sperm directly into each mature egg using a fine glass needle under a high-powered microscope. The rest of the treatment is the same as IVF.

Who may need it?

How it works — step by step

1

Stimulation & egg retrieval

Same as an IVF cycle.

2

Sperm preparation

The semen sample is processed to select healthy, motile sperm.

3

Injection

One sperm is injected into each mature egg.

4

Culture & transfer

Embryos are cultured and an embryo is transferred to the uterus.

Frequently asked questions

In conventional IVF, eggs and sperm are placed together and fertilisation happens naturally in the dish. In ICSI, the embryologist injects one sperm into each egg. ICSI is usually advised when sperm count or quality is low or fertilisation failed in an earlier cycle.
No. Your doctor decides between IVF and ICSI based on semen analysis results and your treatment history.
