What to bring, what tests to expect and how a typical IVF cycle runs at Sunshine IVF Centre.
Hormone injections and tablets help the ovaries develop several mature follicles. Progress is tracked with ultrasound scans and blood tests.
When the follicles are mature, eggs are collected through the vagina with a fine needle under ultrasound guidance. It is a day-care procedure done under short anaesthesia and usually takes 10–30 minutes.
The eggs are mixed with sperm (IVF) or each egg is injected with a single sperm (ICSI). Embryos are cultured in an incubator for 3 to 5 days.
An embryo is gently placed in the uterus using a fine, soft catheter. It feels similar to a routine internal examination.
A blood test (beta-hCG) is done about 11–14 days after embryo transfer.
Before any assisted reproduction procedure, you will receive counselling on the procedure, its risks and alternatives, and costs, and will be asked to sign written informed consent as required under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021. You may ask questions at any stage.
